CBP Says U.S. Seized Almost $1B Imports Linked to Forced Labor
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Executive Assistant Commissioner AnnMarie Highsmith says the agency has seized nearly $1 billion in imports since last June due to suspected forced labor violations. In an interview with NBC News, EAC Highsmith said, “The Chinese government has taken steps to obfuscate those supply chains and prevent businesses from learning [about] the conditions under which the products are manufactured. So if you’re going into China you have an extra layer of risk to work against.” CBP recently updated its online data dashboard resulting from enforcement of the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act (UFLPA). CBP Wraps Up 2023 Trade Summit
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) wrapped up the 2023 Trade Facilitation and Cargo Security Summit in Boston today with breakout sessions on Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act (UFLPA) compliance, ACE 2.0, and E-Commerce. CBP’s Centers for Excellence and Expertise (CEEs) also help one-on-one discussions with attendees. On Monday, attendees heard from Deputy Assistant Secretary Ian C. Lawmakers Advance Resolution to Repeal Suspension of Solar Tariffs
The House Ways and Means Committee (HWM) approved the Congressional Review Act (CRA) today, which would repeal the Biden Administration’s two-year moratorium on new solar tariffs. The 26-13 committee vote targets the White House emergency actions last year that suspended new tariffs on solar products from Cambodia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam for two years.
