AAEI is recognizing AAEI members— Trade Champions— whose careers in international trade have had significant impact on the development of trade policy and practice. This month, AAEI honors Richard DiNucci of Venable LLP.
Rich is Senior International Trade Advisor at Venable where he advises clients on issues related to international trade and customs. But most AAEI members know Rich for his contributions and career at U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) until January 2022.
Rich played an lead role in the creation of pivotal CBP policies and programs. As the deputy assistant commissioner in the Office of International Trade, he initiated the formation of the Centers of Excellence and Expertise (The Centers) and managed CBP’s post-entry compliance programs, audits, and broker compliance efforts.
While he was at CBP, Rich was appointed director of border targeting and security and he oversaw CBP’s Automated Targeting System and initiated the Importer Security Filing (ISF) requirement designed to refine CBP’s cargo security efforts. After 9/11, Rich was assigned to the original team that created the Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) program.
Rich will be a panelist at AAEI’s 102nd Annual Conference & Expo in Washington, DC June 19-21, 2023, on a Forced Labor-related session entitled, “Supply Chain Strategies.” His panel is scheduled for Wednesday, June 21, 2022 at 1:30 p.m. EDT. For event info, please click here.
